Cologne is an outstanding cultural city whose greatest strength lies in its diversity and variety. The music, theater, visual arts, literature, film and city history scenes are broadly based and reach an internationally competitive level. It is particularly true of Cologne that art and culture form the “heart” of the city. They shape Cologne’s attitude to life and its charisma far beyond the Rhineland, both nationally and internationally. They are the pulse of a vibrant urban society.

On the one hand, “Culture lives in Cologne” indicates that culture in Cologne is alive, never stands still, is always changing and takes on new forms. But “Culture lives in Cologne” also says: Culture is at home in Cologne, it has a home here. This not only applies to the many cultural institutions, it also applies very specifically to the artists and cultural workers who live in Cologne and are committed to the city. It applies to the people who make frequent and enjoyable use of cultural offerings of all kinds – and thus make them possible in the first place. They all contribute to the fact that culture is alive and well in Cologne.

The campaign works with a three-stage slogan that illustrates the dimension of culture in Cologne:
“Culture lives in Cologne” (the core message)
“In hundreds of cultural venues. In thousands of events.” (The Scope)
“In millions of minds and hearts.” (The emotional anchoring with the citizens)

As part of our cultural marketing activities, we helped to foster dialog between municipal institutions, politicians and the independent scene. All institutions and players in Cologne’s cultural scene benefit from a joint presence.
